We are told heaven is full of unimaginable joy and
there is no pain there. To get assurance of being able
to spend eternity there would be the ultimate grand
prize. Especially if the alternative is hell for eternity. If there is a chance that I might spend eternity
in hell, that is unacceptable to me. For me to wait
for death to learn my eternal destiny would be too
late and foolish. Once we leave our bodies there is no
coming back to change anything.
Years ago logic, reason and some faith lead me to
conclude our Creator must have established a way for
us to know this most important matter before it is too
late. I tried to figure out the way to get right with
God and make it into heaven. Naturally my first
thoughts were about doing good things and religious
exercises. But what things? And how much is enough? I
quickly dismissed that method because the quantity and
quality of the good things one does is far too
ambiguous for anyone to arrive at point of achievement
to know with certainty they will end up in heaven. But
on my own I could not figure out God’s way.
Then an uncomfortable thought came to my mind. What
are the chances that I was born into a family that
taught me the right religion? And what are the
consequences if I remain in the wrong religion? Why is
a Catholic a Catholic? Why is a Hindu a Hindu? Why is
a Jew a Jew? Why is a Muslim a Muslim? Because they
were born into such a family or they wanted to be part
of such a family. Not because they investigated and
prayed to learn which way is the right way of God.
I knew whatever method God had established for us to
make it into heaven must work for all people groups in
all time spans; such as: rich and poor, educated and
uneducated, literate and illiterate, princesses and
prostitutes. But what way could work for
all those people groups? If there is such a way, that
in and of itself would be a miracle.
I then prayed (to a God who I now realized I did not
know) for Him to show me the right way to get right
with Him and make it into heaven. I thought it would
take 50 years and much effort to learn such a valuable
matter. But that prayer was all the faith I needed for
God to set in motion a series of events that gave me
the answer within weeks!
I really did not learn something new ... God simply
helped me understand and accept what I already knew.
And I am confident you also know of God’s way to get
right with Him and make it into heaven.
