Openings for leading people to Christ ...

The Holy Spirit and experience taught me some of the most effective openings for leading people to Christ. These worked hundreds of times for me. I pray they will be just as effective for you!

General public:
We frequently have conversations with people who ask us questions and we ask them questions (on the phone and in person). At the end of that exchange it is your turn to ask the most important question of all:
Do you know where you will spend eternity? Are you going to make it into heaven or is there a chance you might end up in hell? From now on whenever someone asks you, "Is there anything else I can do for you?" I hope that triggers you to ask that all-important question.

Why this question is so effective
Many evangelistic discussions end as quick as they start or are prolonged with unsaved people defending their position and challenging your beliefs. That often is unproductive.

Deep down most people know they are gambling with their eternity. This question quickly brings their insecurity to the surface:

Do you know where you will spend eternity? Are you going to make it into heaven or is there a chance you might end up in hell?

Regardless of how they respond, now all you need to do is point out the magnitude of their sin, Jesus' costly payment for their sin and the sinners' prayer.

For people you have e_mail addresses for:
Send them an e_mail message explaining the gospel message. The best timing is early Good Friday morning and about a week before Christmas. Although this link is for mailing letters via the Postal Service, you can copy and paste that text into your e_mail message. Or if you prefer, you can e_mail a short message like this:
Do you know why so many people celebrate Easter 2000 years after Jesus was crucified? It is totally unique to celebrate two major holidays for one person, 2000 years later, all over the world! To learn the relevance of this click here.
Or at Christmas time:
Do you know why so many people celebrate Christmas 2000 years after Jesus was born? It is totally unique to celebrate two major holidays for one person, 2000 years later, all over the world! To learn the relevance of this click here.

Note your calendar to do this so you do not forget. And start praying now for this important event.

For telemarketers who call you:
Most of the time telemarketers start by saying their name and before they get much further, the listener rejects them and hangs up. Start by remembering their name. Allow them to go on for a little bit and don't reject them. After about 30 seconds, say, ________ [name] I have a question for you. This is off the subject but this just might be the most important question anyone will ever ask you. Do you know where you will spend eternity? Are you going to make it into heaven or is there a chance you might end up in hell?

For taxi cab drivers:
Quickly tell them your name and ask for theirs. Then ask, “Are there any good churches nearby?” Do you go to church? Do you know where you will spend eternity? Are you going to make it into heaven or is there a chance you might end up in hell?

For hotel front desk clerks:
At many hotels front desk clerks often are bored. Before you are tempted to waste your time watching TV, go down and ask something like: Have you heard the weather forecast. Then ask, “Are there any good churches nearby?” Do you go to church? Do you know where you will spend eternity? Are you going to make it into heaven or is there a chance you might end up in hell?

For those who are wearing a cross:
I see you are wearing a cross. Do you know where you will spend eternity? Are you going to make it into heaven or is there a chance you might end up in hell?

For friends and family:
As you know by now this is the most difficult group to reach. Keep on praying for the Holy Spirit to lift the scales off their eyes. You can try one of the above methods or click here for how to mail a letter explaining the salvation message.

Tips for successful evangelism:
1.    Brace yourself for discouragement and fear. These are very common emotions that we need to over ride. Scoffers who are hell-bound are real downers to witness to. Remember the hell-bound are not our target and once we are in heaven they will never be a problem for us again. Our targets are our brothers and sisters in Christ who are not yet saved.
2.    Finding a ripe harvest field of eager souls is the biggest key. For me it is calling people in call centers in the Philippians, Central America and the Caribbean. Just call their 800 number and ask a simple question like, “What is the cheapest ______ you have?” When they ask if you have any others questions, say, “Ah ... Yes, I do. This is a question I like asking people and this just might be the most important question anyone will ever ask you. Do you know where you will spend eternity? Are you going to make it into heaven or is there a chance you might end up in hell?”
